Our Story
The “Browndogs” are real! Three rescued Boston Terriers are the inspiration for the name behind what has evolved into Michigan’s first Barlor®. We started by creating a food and ice cream experience with locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients that humans and their pets could enjoy.
After our beginnings as an artisan ice cream parlor, we got a little crazy and added a bar and a restaurant. Our ice cream is handmade in small batches of six gallons or less at a time.
All of our bakery items are made from scratch, with no mixes or pre-packaged items.
Our bar focuses on cocktails inspired by Michigan spirits, while our food follows the creativeness of the ice cream and cocktails by putting our unique Browndog twist on classic bar food.
And one of the best things we did? We put our artisan ice cream into boozy shakes and cocktails that literally put “Your Childhood on the Rocks®.”
We’re genuinely passionate about what we do at Browndog. When we say “handcrafted,” we mean it: using local products, slicing our cheeses, and making our sauces from scratch. Every ingredient has a purpose, and quality defines what we do.

With everything going on it can be easy to forget about the ongoing crisis of abandoned animals. With our name inspired by three rescued Boston Terriers, we felt it was our ethical duty to give back to the shelters that take care of all these precious animals.
“Pints For Progress” is our initiative where we give back a portion of our sales to local animal rescues. The best part is: all you need to do to help is to keep buying pints like you always have!
Whichever way you buy them, (at our Barlor & Restaurant, in stores, or nationwide shipping), it all goes to help the animals. We rotate rescues often so that we can support as many as possible.
